U.S. Cellular this week will reportedly raise the data caps on its shared plans, in some cases more than doubling the allotted amount.
The $40 plan will jump from 300MB to 1GB, the $50 plan will jump from 1GB to 2GB and the $60 plan will jump from 2GB to 3GB. U.S. Cellular will also introduce a $15 price point for 300MB and a new $60 single line plan with 1GB, according to a document Droid Life published.
The new plans will reportedly go into effect March 13. U.S. Cellular will automatically update accounts and alert customers of the change via text.
U.S. Cellular just launched its shared data plans in October 2013 but given the rate at which the four largest U.S. wireless providers have been switching up their pricing plans, it’s unsurprising to see U.S. Cellular respond.
Verizon recently announced its More Everything plans that similarly bumped up data caps while maintaining the same price points. AT&T has made a number of changes to its shared and individual data plans. Sprint recently announced Framily plans that lower the price per line as more lines are added (up to 10) to a plan.
The string of pricing moves coming from competing carriers appears to signal disruption coming from T-Mobile’s aggressive “Un-carrier” pricing and plan tweaks. The carrier’s most recent announcement, Un-carrier 4.0, offers to pay early termination fees for customers willing to switch from other carriers to T-Mobile.
