Pressure from federal officials reportedly prompted another top U.S. carrier to scrap plans to sell smartphones made by Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, reports that Verizon no longer plans to sell Huawei phones.

Huawei is among the world’s top smartphone makers, but it lacks an affiliation with a major U.S. carrier that would bolster its scant presence in the world’s largest economy.

The company increasingly sought those partnerships of late but was rebuffed amid concerns from U.S. lawmakers and regulators that Huawei’s ties to Beijing could pose security risks.

AT&T scuttled its agreement with Huawei on the eve of an announcement at CES, and reports indicated that members of Congress are pressuring the company to cut all ties to Huawei.

Huawei officials have repeatedly defended its security practices in recent weeks.
