BARCELONA—Samsung Electronics has announced a 65 nm mobile TV system-on-a-chip solution, which combines a channel decoder with an RF chip. Samsung’s new S3C4F60 supports all worldwide TV standards with respect to frequency range and channel bandwidth.
“As consumers begin to embrace mobile TV, mobile service providers and telecommunication carriers will increase their offerings in a variety of new services aimed at improving customer retention and building new revenue streams,” said Yiwan Wong, vice president of Samsung’s System LSI Division Marketing Team in the company’s Semiconductor Business.
Samsung’s new receiver chip supports six different mobile TV standards and complies with all related specifications. The company also says that its S3C4F60 offers a significant boost in mobile performance. It expects to begin mass-producing the single chip solution during the third quarter.
In more handset news, Samsung also announced 11 new handsets at the Mobile World Congress today. The company also says it hopes to launch four or five WiMAX handsets later this year and a handset based on Google’s Android mobile phone platform by early next year.
