Samsung says it can make the battery in your smartphone last twice as long.
According to a report from International Business Times, scientists from Samsung have published a paper that shows adding a silicon material to a traditional lithium-ion battery can significantly extend the life of the battery.
IBT explains that researchers from Samsung used a silicon coating that supports pure carbon growth on top of the battery’s silicon nanoparticles but does not cause a silicon carbide formation that would disrupt the energy transfer.
The results of the study were published in the Nature.
Samsung has already aimed to improve battery performance to some degree with faster charging technology in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones.
Longer battery life has been a challenge for smartphone makers, as longevity is largely dictated by the size of the battery.
