Sony Pictures Television announced that it has signed a deal with AT&T and Qualcomm subsidiary MediaFLO to launch a dedicated movie channel for mobile phones. AT&T announced last week that it plans to launch its mobile TV network with two exclusive channels—it seems the Sony movie channel is one of those secret channels to launch in May.
The mobile movie channel will be called PIX and offer full-length titles from Sony’s collection. Full-length films have been available in the on-demand format on handsets since 2006, but this will be the first exclusive movie channel.
Sony said it is also in discussions with other U.S. carriers, but did not say which ones.
AT&T has yet to introduce pricing for its mobile TV offering.
