Sprint April Press Event: ‘Hear It for Yourself’

By Andrew Berg | April 2, 2014

Sprint InviteSprint today sent out invitations to a press event in New York. The cryptic tagline on the invite was “Hear it for yourself,” and could be a reference to the company’s HD Voice product.

The event comes after Sprint CEO Dan Hesse announced it would take HD Voice nationwide in July. Sprint has said it is committed to making the feature standard on its mobile phones.

HD Voice eliminates background noise to enhance sound quality. Sprint pitches the call quality as better than a landline, and the company says a typical phone without HD Voice offers four octaves of sound, while Sprint’s HD Voice claims to offer seven.

Sprint has been testing the service in select markets, with Philadelphia and Boston the most recent cities to see the service go live.

Sprint’s HD Voice works on more than two dozen handsets including the Google Nexus 5, Motorola Moto X and the HTC One.

The company’s HD Voice product goes hand in hand with Sprint’s Network Vision inititiave, a massive undertaking that has Sprint tearing out its old network for new hardware.

Sprint also turned on its 2.5 GHz high-speed Spark coverage in 18 cities so far. Sprint expects to have 250 million people covered with LTE by mid-year, according to a press release.

We’ll just have to wait and see whether Hesse and company have more than just a demostration of HD voice for the April press event.
