Sprint is finally making some noise this year, with a new promotion aimed directly at students.
The company Monday announced the My Way Student Promotion, which gives students up to 12 months of free talk, text and 1GB data with the purchase of a smartphone at Best Buy.
Students can add unlimited data for $10/month.
Sprint says those students that prefer a basic phone can also get 12 months of free talk and text with blocked data for $50 per month.
The promotion applies to high school and college aged students, but the carrier says children under 13 will need parental consent.
The offer is available from Nov. 15, 2013 through Jan. 1, 2014 and students have to validate that they’re in school within days of that date that they activate their phone.
Upon completion of the free service, the student line will be charged the regular price of $70 for their service. Sprint says that students can avoid charges at the end of the free period by terminating the student line before the end of the 12 months.
The offer is available exclusively at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores.
