Sprint on Wednesday launched a promotion to counter T-Mobile’s two-free-line deal from last week, offering the third, fourth, and fifth lines on an Unlimited Freedom account at no charge for a year.
According to the announcement, now through December 1, customers who switch at least one line to Sprint and sign up for Unlimited Freedom can get their third, fourth, and fifth lines of Unlimited Freedom free through January 31, 2018. At a cost of $60 for the first line and $40 for the second, that works out to a total monthly cost of $100 for five lines, Sprint said.
Once the promotion is up in January 2018, Sprint said customers will begin paying the $30 per month for each of the three free lines, which will raise the total monthly cost to $190.
The move follows T-Mobile’s reveal of a similar campaign last week, when it offered new and existing customers the chance to get two free lines of service. That offer ended Nov. 22.
Sprint said the free line promotion is being offered on top of its holiday smartphone deals. The carrier is offering a free 32 GB iPhone 6s when customers add a line with a 32 GB iPhone 6s on a lease plan; two free Samsung Galaxy J3 smartphones; and a buy-one-get-one deal on the Samsung Galaxy S7.
