Sprint today unveiled a partnering with location aggregation specialists uLocate Communications and WaveMarket to help developers create new services.
Applications could be traditional software, or could invoke SMS, WAP, the Web or widgets.
“Both platforms provide developers with simple, powerful tools to create and launch location-enabled applications, reducing the difficulty of certifying and on-boarding applications that use GPS, triangulation and other location services while protecting customer privacy,” Sprint announced.
Both companies were already Sprint partners; uLocate works with the Xohm mobile WiMAX service, now part of Clearwire. WaveMarket is partially funded by Qualcomm.
Sprint will continue to look for other partners, a spokesman said.
