Sprint today unveiled a new $60 unlimited talk, text and data plan for single subscribers that undercuts T-Mobile’s similar offering for $80.
Beginning August 22, Sprint who buy device through Easy Pay, pay full retail price or bring their own compatible device will be eligible for the plan.
Sprint even addressed the promotion just launched today by T-Mobile offering unlimited data or a $10 monthly credit to customers who convince a friend to switch over from Sprint, AT&T or Verizon.
“Sprint’s new everyday price of $60 a month for unlimited saves customers $480 over two years against T-Mobile’s $80 everyday pricing. And, customers can save $120 over two years versus T-Mobile’s promotional price…and they don’t have to jump through T-Mobile’s hoops and recruit their friends,” Sprint said in a statement.
T-Mobile today blasted Sprint for doing away with unlimited for families and only offering its new Family Share Pack to new customers. A Sprint spokesperson said that existing Framily plan customers are able to switch over to the new shared plans. And Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure also seemed to respond to the criticism.
“People know Sprint for Unlimited,” Claure said in a statement. “We have long been the leader in offering customers unlimited data and that leadership continues today with our new $60 unlimited plan…And, we’ve listened to our loyal customers; we’re making the Sprint $60 Unlimited Plan available to both new and existing customers.”
With the new single-line plan and the earlier announced Family Share Pack—which outmatches similar $160 four-line plans by offering 20GB—Claure is making good on his recent pledge to introduce “very disruptive” pricing.
