Sprint yesterday announced Sprint Veolcity, a new end-to-end in-car solution for automakers. The company formally unveiled solution yesterday as part of the Technology Showcase at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Sprint is billing the new solution as an enabler for auto manufacturers looking to integrate the components and vendor relationships needed to provide connected services in cars and trucks.
“Sprint Velocity enables auto manufacturers to customize the variety of connected features inside the vehicle, through the simplicity of a single point of mobile integration and enablement,” said Wayne Ward, vice president of emerging solutions for Sprint, in a statement.
Sprint announced Chrysler Group as a customer. Sprint will help integrate wireless technology into Chrysler Group’s Uconnect Access in-vehicle communication system. Uconnect Access is initially available in the redesigned 2013 Ram 1500 and SRT Viper.
To be sure the market for in-vehicle connectivity and service is growing. A recent study from Visiongain estimates that total revenue from the connected car market in 2013 will exceed $21 billion.
