This story has been update to include that U.S. Cellular will be launching the Galaxy S4 at the end of April.
Sprint and T-Mobile, which had previously announced their customers would get first dibs on the Samsung Galaxy S4, have now said the device will be delayed.
In a statement, Sprint said that while it had planned to launch the phone on Saturday, April 27, Sprint was dealing with “unexpected inventory challenges from Samsung.”
Sprint said it is working closely with Samsung to launch in all Sprint channels as soon as possible. The company expects to make the Galaxy S 4 available online and over the phone as planned on Saturday with Sprint retail stores and other channels receiving devices as inventory becomes available.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile posted a message on its website that its launch of Samsung’s latest and greatest will be delayed until April 29. T-Mobile also blamed inventory issued.
Sprint Nextel will offer the phone for $250 up front, with a $100 credit for any customer who switches from another carrier, while T-Mobile’s version of the S4 should be available online and in stores beginning April 24 for $149.99 down and no contract, but with monthly device payments “for qualifying customers with the new Simple Choice Plan.”
AT&T customers can now pre-order the device for $199, with shipments starting April 30. Verizon Wireless has said it will carry the phone but it has not yet confirmed pricing or availablity for the S4.
Regional carriers C Spire Wireless and U.S. Cellular will be getting the S4. U.S. Cellular will begin offering the Galaxy S4 online beginning April 26. Preorders will ship that same day, and the device will be available in store on April 30.
The GalaxyS4, successor to the Galasxy S III, is powered by Android 4.2.2, (Jelly Bean) and features a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED touchscreen, 1.9GHz quad-core processor and LTE connectivity.
