Google has apparently taken a step in the right direction with its new smartphone, the Nexus One. At the end of a week when many on the Web have been flogging the Internet giant for poor customer service, Google today said that it will drop the price of the device by a $100 for existing T-Mobile USA customers.
According to numerous reports around the Web, Google is refunding $100 to all those T-Mobile customers who paid $379 to upgrade to the device. The current pricing structure for the Nexus One puts a price of $529 on the unlocked version of the device, and a $170 price tag on the subsidized version through T-Mobile with a two-year contract.
Both Google and T-Mobile have been plagued by a week of bad press surrounding problems with the phone’s connection to T-Mobile’s 3G network, as well as reports of poor customer service.
Neither Google nor T-Mobile responded to calls for comment before press time.
