T-Mobile Intros $40 Simple Starter Plan, Promises More Moves This Week

By Ben Munson | April 9, 2014

T-Mobile today announced its new Simple Starter plan, running $40 monthly for unlimited talk and text and up to 500MB of LTE data.

Available starting April 12, the new plan promises no data overages ever along with the opportunity to buy extra data sessions.

The new plans are one of a few announcements T-Mobile has planned for this week. It’s not officially Un-carrier 5.0 just yet, but T-Mobile CMO Mike Sievert yesterday on Twitter promised a “big throw-down” nonetheless.

In a press release labeling the Simple Starter announcement as “Day 1 of 3,” T-Mobile CEO John Legere was in typical form, lambasting the industry for sticking customers with overage charges.

“It’s wrong! And I personally want to drive those ridiculous schemes out of this industry. We will continue to be relentless and bring this forced march of change to the market every day so consumers can be creative with and enjoy the true benefits of wireless. I know we have it right and when we all are done reporting results from the first quarter – I think you’ll share my conviction,” Legere said in a statement.
