T-Mobile today announced it has switched on Wideband LTE in New York City. Wideband is the name T-Mobile gives to LTE deployments of 15×15 MHz or larger.
The carrier says customers are reporting download speeds topping out around 100 Mbps and average speeds just above 22 Mbps.
In addition to the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, and Northern New Jersey, T-Mobile says all of Westchester County, including White Plains and Scarsdale as well as Central New Jersey will be receiving the speedier LTE soon.
With this latest update T-Mobile now says it has Wideband LTE deployments up in 27 major areas or 120 metro areas total. T-Mobile has said it plans to deploy 20×20 MHz LTE in all major markets.
T-Mobile is currently deploying LTE on AWS, 1900 MHz PCS and 700 MHz A-Block spectrum. During its third quarter earnings call, the carrier said it has already reached its 2014 year-end coverage goal of 250 million people. The carrier now expects to have 300 million people covered by T-Mobile LTE by the end of 2015.
