T-Mobile USA today continued its efforts to vend prepaid devices in more convenient places with its announcement that it will be partnering with Family Dollar stores.
Family Dollar customers will now be able to pick up the LG GS170 ($30), which features a VGA camera, MP3 ringtone capability, Bluetooth 2.1, text and picture messaging and email support.
T-Mobile offers monthly prepaid plans on its HSPA+ network that include a $50 per month plan featuring unlimited talk, text and web, with no overage charges and the first 100 MB of data at up to HSPA+ speeds.
Family Dollar said it will offer T-Mobile’s products, along with other wireless offerings, in new endcap displays that are placed in front of each Family Dollar store.
“We have had a great relationship with T-Mobile since 2003 and believe that this partnership has been a key factor in Family Dollar becoming one of the nation’s largest national retailers of mobile airtime,” said Bob Giles, divisional vice president for Family Dollar, in a press release.
T-Mobile has been on a tear recently to increase its retail visibility, since the carrier was dropped from its contract with Radio Shack. Early this month, the carrier announced that it would also be offering prepaid devices at 7-11 stores.
