T-Mobile bested its top four competition, including Verizon, in a recent ranking of U.S. wireless carriers, according to a new Consumer Reports survey.
According to the survey, which is in its fifth year, T-Mobile edged out Verizon, Sprint and AT&T with an overall customer satisfaction score of 73 out of 100. Verizon came in a close second with a score of 70, while AT&T and Sprint trailed behind with scores of 68 and 67, respectively.
In particular, consumers expressed their satisfaction with T-Mobile’s value and customer support. However, the Un-carrier fell behind both AT&T and Verizon in both call and data quality. Sprint had difficulty with both its web service and data speeds.
Though T-Mobile CEO John Legere heralded the news Thursday on Twitter, two things are important to note in the study. First, all four top carriers showed improvement over their 2014 scores. Second, all four top carriers actually ranked below smaller and regional providers like U.S. Cellular, Ting Wireless, Virgin Mobile, Consumer Cellular and Republic Wireless.
Still, according to Consumer Reports, nearly 80 percent of survey respondents said they get their service from one of the top four carriers, and just over 80 percent of those respondents said they get their service through AT&T or Verizon. A mere six percent of respondents said they had switched cell phone carriers in the past year.
