DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A Taiwanese smart telephone maker says it will open a research and development office in Durham, hiring about 45 workers.
The Herald-Sun of Durham reported that HTC said Tuesday the office will open early next year.
The company says the Durham office will focus on research into several areas of wireless technology.
HTC makes smart phones for Microsoft, T-Mobile and Verizon.
The company’s other research and development operations in the United States are in Seattle and San Francisco.
Kevin Dick with the Office of Economic and Workforce Development in Durham says the average salary will be around $125,000 a year.
