Timex today announced the Ironman One GPS+, a smartwatch that connects directly to AT&T’s HSPA network without any help from a phone.
Priced at $400, the One GPS+ comes with one free year of AT&T connectivity for customers in the U.S. and Canada. An AT&T spokesman said the carrier is not yet announcing pricing for service after the free year is up.
The watch packs an always-on Qualcomm Mirasol display, 4GB of storage for music, and GPS features that allow for tracking speed, distance and location. Although the watch does feature some email capabilities, it won’t be able to use its cellular connection to place calls or send texts.
Besides featuring the same display technology that’s easy on batteries and performs better in sunlight, the One GPS+ looks to have taken some design cues from Qualcomm’s Toq smartwatch released in 2013.
