Wireless carrier U.S. Cellular on Thursday unveiled a new promotion offering $300 to customers who switch and trade in their device – even if the screen is cracked.
According to U.S. Cellular vice president of marketing Joe Settimi, the move is part of a bid to tear down the remaining barriers that prevent customers from switching carriers.
“We know that there are people who are looking to change wireless carriers, but they have broken screens that have no trade-in value, and therefore can’t afford to make the switch,” Settimi said. “We wanted to remove that barrier for people and give them an easy way to upgrade to the high-quality U.S. Cellular network.”
The terms of the offer state that customers will receive a $100 promotional card instantly at the point of sale when they make the switch and will receive the remaining $200 via a promotional card in the mail within six to eight weeks.
U.S. Cellular has also gone a step further and put an “unlimited buy-out” offer in the table for customers looking to get out of current contracts. The four tier-1 carriers in the country only offer up to $650 for those making the switch.
Additionally, the carrier said if current U.S. Cellular customers refer a friend and get that friend to activate a smartphone on a Shared Connect plan, both will receive $50.
