Verizon over the weekend added the iPad and Android tablets to its Edge early upgrade program.
Under the Edge program, for example, an iPad Air would be priced at $31.50 for 20 months, identical to the pricing AT&T offers for the same device on its Next program.
“We’ve had other tablet payment plans in the past, but now we’re focused on Edge,” a Verizon spokesperson told Wireless Week when asked about why tablets are just coming to Edge.
Under Edge, customers can opt for a new device after paying 60 percent of their current device.
Verizon opening up tablets to Edge comes several months after T-Mobile’s “tablet freedom” announcement which included a promise of LTE tablets for Wi-Fi only prices and 200 MBs free monthly.
