Verizon, Alltel, AT & T Announce Holiday Specials

By Staff Author | November 25, 2008

Verizon Wireless and Alltel unveiled new smartphones today, while AT&T announced a two-for-one deal for the holidays.

Samsung OmniaFollowing on the heels of the BlackBerry Storm last weekend, Verizon said another hot smartphone, the Samsung Omnia, will be in retail stores on Dec. 8. The Omnia, similar to Samsung’s Instinct sold by Sprint Nextel, is a touchscreen Windows Mobile 6.1 device with haptics feedback.

Other features include the Opera 9.5 mobile browser, a 5.0 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, playback of movies and music along with a 3.4-inch display. It will cost $249.99 after a $70 mail-in rebate via a debit card and with a new 2-year contract.

Alltel’s new phones include the Motorola Hint, also known as the QA30, along with the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro. The Hint is a consumer messaging-centric device with a sliding vertical keyboard and with XM satellite radio streaming, while the Touch devices use Windows Mobile touchscreen designs.  It’s available this Friday starting at $99.99 after a $50 rebate. Details about the HTC devices were not available this morning. HTC’s Diamond starts at $249.99 and the Pro starts at $279.99

AT&T’s buy-one, get-one-free offer applies to the Pantech Matrix and Samsung Propel. The Matrix is a dual slider and the Propel is designed with an entertainment focus. Each normally costs $79.99 after mail-in rebates. For the current offer, customers must pay $129.99 for the first phone and $49.99 for the second, plus 2-year contracts for both phones, followed by rebates via debit cards.
