Verizon Cuts Rate Plans with Discounts for Edge Customers

By Andrew Berg | August 18, 2014

Verizon today unveiled a new plans that come with a discounts for Edge customers.

Verizon’s new $60 single-line plan includes unlimited talk, text and 2GB of data for $60, or $50 if the customer signs up for Verizon’s Edge device financing program.

Verizon’s ‘More Everything’ plans include data packages that range from 250MB to 100GB of data that can be shared with up to 10 lines. More Everything customers who choose Verizon Edge will also be eligible for $10 off their monthly smartphone access for data allowances up to 8 GB, and $25 off monthly smartphone access on plans of 10 GB and higher.

With the Edge discount, Verizon’s new single-line plan also comes in below AT&T’s comparable offering, which comes in at $65 for unlimited talk, text and 2GB of data.

The news comes as Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure last week promised his company would be launching “very disruptive” rate plans. Sprint recently sent out invites for an August 19 press event with the tagline “Take the EDGE Off.”

It would be notable if Verizon’s new plans were aimed at staying ahead of Sprint, as the nation’s largest carrier has stayed above the fray in the pricing war initiated by T-Mobile.
