A top Verizon Wireless executive will provide details about the company’s pending LTE launch at a press conference tomorrow, the operator announced today.
Tony Melone, Verizon’s chief technical officer, will host a news conference about the company’s LTE deployment on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at noon Eastern.
Last week, Verizon released television ads that pinned its LTE launch date as some time in December. The company had previously said it would make its LTE services commercially available before the end of the year, but had not announced specific dates.
Verizon has planned an aggressive launch for its LTE service, which will become available in 38 cities covering 110 million people by the end of December. It’s also launching LTE in more than 60 airports.
The operator’s LTE launch is pressuring cash-strapped Clearwire and Sprint to speed up their WiMAX deployments. Sprint and Clearwire turned on WiMAX service in six markets yesterday, and plan to launch in San Francisco on Dec. 28.
