Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam on Tuesday told The Wall Street Journal that Verizon is working with Google on a tablet computer to match the success of Apple’s iPad.

McAdam cited a deepening relationship with Google, supplier of the Android operating system and Chrome OS, upon which the new tablet will be based.

Google was unavailable for comment before press time.

The Verizon CEO reportedly said that his company sees the tablet computer as one of the next big opportunities and added that Verizon Wireless was looking at how it could integrate “all the things Google has in its archives.”

McAdam admitted that Verizon Wireless is a bit behind the game when it comes to tablets and eReaders. AT&T currently provides connectivity for the Amazon Kindle, as well as for Apple’s iPad. He also said that Verizon Wireless will be changing its pricing.

“The old model of one price plan per device is going to fall away,” McAdam told the journal, saying that carriers soon will be adding plans that offer “buckets of megabytes.”
