Verizon Tuesday will announce news at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, presumably around the connected car.
The carrier sent out reminders for the “significant announcement” and promised to deliver a “Breakthrough for 200 Million Cars.”
If the announcement ends up concerning the connected car, it could help Verizon catch up to AT&T, which has amassed more automotive manufacturer deals.
A Reuters report attributed Verizon apparently falling behind AT&T in the space to Verizon’s non-global CDMA network technology.
AT&T used its annual developer summit in Las Vegas to launch new APIs for its connected car platform and announce a connectivity deal with Subaru. Sprint and T-Mobile have also each announced a handful of deals with automakers.
Last year GSMA issued forecasts predicting the global connected car market will grow three-fold within five years.
