Virgin Mobile customers will soon get location-aware mobile entertainment information through a startup called buzzd.
Buzzd’s content will be added to Virgin Mobile’s WAP deck, the companies said. The service provides a city guide and social networking features, including venue comments submitted by a customer’s friends.
Mobile entertainment services have long been a promising application; in this case the service is free to use except for standard text and data rates, Virgin officials said.
Buzzd announced a similar deal with Helio earlier this year. Virgin Mobile is a joint venture of Sprint Nextel and Virgin Group, while Helio is an MVNO using Sprint’s network.
