Virgin Unveils Helio Ocean 2

By Wireless Week staff | February 3, 2009

Helio Ocean 2Virgin Mobile USA announced the first contract 3G handset in its 2009 line-up, the Helio Ocean 2 by Virgin Mobile.

A soft-edge dual slider, the new Ocean 2 boasts slimmer lines and a larger screen than its predecessor. The device goes on sale online for $149 on Feb. 12. It also will be available at select retailers.

The Helio Ocean 2 is produced exclusively for Virgin Mobile USA by Personal Communications Devices (PCD).

Virgin Mobile also says it will offer new benefits to its contract plans that align with its no-contract plans. Beginning Feb. 12, contract customers will get unlimited nights and weekend calling starting at 7 p.m., and Virgin is eliminating the $5 charge for unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling.

Virgin Mobile acquired Helio last year.
