VPG and ES Components Realign Relationship With Focus on High-Reliability, High-Temperature Resistors

By Staff Author | October 30, 2014

Malvern, PA — Vishay Precision Group [NYSE: VPG] and ES Components have announced that the two companies have realigned their relationship to focus on meeting the increased demand for high-reliability, high-temperature resistors. Under the new agreement, ES Components is stocking and providing support for Vishay Foil Resistors brand (VFR) ultra-high-precision Bulk Metal Foil resistors in order to minimize lead times for its customers and ensure reliable performance for their applications in harsh environmental conditions.

“Military, aerospace, and down-hole equipment is subjected to extremely high temperatures and requires the utmost in reliability,” says Ike Aubrey, president of ES Components. “VFR resistors are among the very few products in the market capable of withstanding these conditions, allowing us to deliver stable resistive solutions for extremely challenging applications. As the demand for high-reliability, high-temperature resistors continues to increase, the realignment of our partnership with VPG makes it possible to supply our customers with customized devices offering the exact resistance values they require within a matter of days.”

“Not all requirements for precision resistors are the same,” says Yuval Hernik, senior director of application engineering for VFR. “Some require a higher level of expertise and support, and ES Components has a long history of providing just that. They are the perfect partner for projects that demand stability measured in PPM, with a proven reputation for rising to the challenges of special markets — from concept to delivery and support. We are very excited to realign our partnership with the company and look forward to meeting its customers’ needs for high-reliability, high-temperature components.”

High-reliability VFR resistors stocked and supported by ES Components include the 303261 – 303266 series of military-qualified, ultra-high-precision Z1-Foil wrap-around chip resistors. Tested per EEE-INST-002 (Tables 2A and 3A, Film/Foil, Level 1) and MIL-PRF-55342, the devices provide exceptional load-life stability of ±0.0025% typical after rated power at 70°C for 2,000 hours; low nominal TCR of ±0.2 ppm/°C from -55°C to +125°C, +25°C ref.; PCR (ΔR due to self-heating) of 5 ppm at rated power; and tight tolerances to ±0.02%. The devices excel over all previous stability standards for precision resistors with an order of magnitude improvement in temperature stability, load-life stability, and moisture resistance.

For high-temperature applications up to +200°C, ES Components will offer devices such as the Z201HT ultra-high-precision through-hole Z-Foil resistor. The device offers low TCR of ±1 ppm/°C nominal from -55°C to +200°C, +25°C ref.; tight tolerances to ±0.01%; and load-life stability to 0.1% after 1,000 hours of rated power at +200°C. The Z201HT is optimized for a wide variety of high-temperature applications, including geothermal measuring equipment, turbine engine control, and environmental test chambers in military, industrial, automotive, and down-hole drilling systems.
