Ottawa-based technology and licensing firm Wi-LAN has filed a patent suit against Motorola, Research in Motion and UTStarCom in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The suit claims that these companies’ mobile handheld devices and other equipment infringe on two of Wi-LAN’s U.S. patents.
Wi-LAN says McKool Smith will represent it in this action; the firm is also representing Wi-LAN in two separate actions filed on Oct. 31, 2007, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
Wi-Lan also confirmed that it settled a patent dispute with Marvell Semiconductor in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Founded in 1992, the Wi-LAN says it has licensed intellectual property to over 100 companies and has a portfolio of patented inventions in a range of electronics and communications products.
