Apple’s record-setting iPhone weekend lead to a large amount of new activations on U.S. carriers, with the lion’s share going to AT&T and Verizon.
Localytics estimates the iPhone 5S and 5C now represent 1.36 percent of all activated iPhones in the U.S. across the four big carriers. Of those new iPhones, about 49 percent jumped on AT&T and more than 37 percent started up on Verizon, accounting for nearly 87 percent of the total. That leaves only about nine percent for Sprint and about five percent for T-Mobile.
Localytics also broke down the iPhone 5S activations versus the 5C’s and found Apple’s high-end device thoroughly won out, now representing 1.05 percent of iPhones activated in the U.S. compared to the 5C with 0.31 percent. That means in the U.S. the 5S performed 3.5 times as well as the 5C, a trend that Localytics saw continuing globally. In Japan, the 5S racked up activations at a rate of five times that of the 5C.
Apple earlier today announced it had sold nine million units of its new iPhones over the weekend, shattering the record of five million it set last year with the iPhone 5 weekend launch.
