Best Buy will offer the BlackBerry Torch, Research In Motion’s latest touchscreen device, for free as part of the retailer’s Free Smart Phone Sales Event.
Best Buy Mobile recently launched its holiday event featuring free smartphones every day in December. As part of the promotion, Best Buy also will be featuring the Droid Incredible by HTC (Verizon), Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (AT&T), LG Optimus S (Sprint) and LG Optimus T (T-Mobile).
According to a press release, the Torch will be free through Dec. 24 with a new or updated two-year mobile contract with carriers through Best Buy.
The BlackBerry Torch features a full touchscreen, slider qwerty keyboard and other hallmarks of the high-end smartphone. RIM has hopes the device will help it compete with other devices like the iPhone 4 and Android devices from Motorola and HTC.
The company said that the new promotion stemmed from customer feedback from its Free Phone Fridays campaign in October.
