Feature overload on wireless devices is no longer hot, according to a national survey conducted by Kelton Research for Jitterbug. The survey found the majority of consumers actually prefer basic personalized options and good old-fashioned personal service rather than a multiplicity of fancy features.
Other findings of the survey:
- 73% of respondents prefer to pay only for what they believe they will actually use, compared to 27% who want all of the bells and whistles.
- 32% of cell phone users say their current cell phone service has more features than they use.
- 34% of cell phone users say their current contracts or service agreements have too many restrictions.
- 61% say they might purchase a cell phone or change carriers if they didn’t have to sign a contract.
The survey was conducted as part of Jitterbug’s activities surrounding the 35th anniversary of the cellular phone. Jitterbug co-founder Marty Cooper is credited with inventing the cell phone. Cooper’s wife, Arlene Harris, invented the Jitterbug phone, a simplified wireless device and contract-less service.
