Verizon Wireless is rolling out Android 2.1 to its Droid Eris subscribers. The update includes free turn-by-turn navigation through Google Maps with Navigation, free Yahoo! e-mail and added support for Microsoft Office 2007 documents.
A Verizon spokeswoman said a small number of Droid Eris owners have already received the update. The over-the-air download will be available for all Eris users in the next 13 days.
The update (software version ROM: 2.36.605.1/Radio: 2.42.00.04.12 ) also adds voice-to-text entry; pinch-to-zoom functionality for the gallery and Google Maps; and a new thumbnail view that allows users to jump between the seven panels on the Eris home screen.
