4G World is moving to Dallas for its 2013 conference after four years in Chicago. The event will be held at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center from Oct. 28-30, 2013. The move is part of UBM TechWeb’s plan to expand 4G World into international markets. Next spring, the event will be held in India, a top growth market for the wireless industry. 4G World India will take place at the Epicentre, Gurgaon, Delhi, on April 25 and 26, 2013.
The number of small cells deployed worldwide is now larger than the number of traditional base stations, according to new Informa estimates. The research firm reports that over the past month, the number of small cells has surpassed 6 million with macrocells worldwide totaling about 5.9 million. Residential femtocells comprised 80 percent of the small cells.
Verizon Wireless launched online sales of the LG Spectrum 2 yesterday. The LTE smartphone is equipped with NFC, a 4.7-inch HD display with Gorilla Glass, front- and rear-facing cameras, Snapdragon S4 Krait 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 16 GB of internal storage. The Android device is selling for $100 after a $50 mail-in rebate and new two-year contract. It will go on sale in Verizon’s brick-and-mortar stores in the coming weeks.
Cricket Communications has taken the wraps off the HTC Desire C. The device has a 3.5-inch HVGA display and a 5 megapixel camera. On the software side, the Android smartphone is outfitted with Beats audio technology, HTC Sense 4.0 and “deep integration” with Dropbox, providing 25 GB of free storage on the service. The Desire C carries a price tag of about $180 with Cricket’s prepaid plans.
