China Mobile, the world’s largest wireless provider by customer base, says its subscriber base swelled to 683 million by the end of June, including the addition of 67 million new 3G customers. So far this year, China Mobile has added 33.5 million net new customers.

Vringo has closed its merger with patent company Innovate/Protect. The combined company will be led by CEO Andrew Perlman and a board of directors from Vringo and Innovate/Protect. Nokia Siemens Networks and Renesas Mobile have held what they say is the first over-the-air demonstration of a voice-over-LTE call between two Android smartphones. “This technology milestone sets the scene for operators to migrate to providing all their services over IP, including voice and SMS, thereby freeing up legacy circuit switched GSM and WCDMA cellular networks,” the companies said in a statement. Renesas provided reference devices running Android Ice Cream Sandwich and outfitted with its SP2531 modem. Those devices connected to an LTE network set up by Nokia Siemens.

Tempest Telecom Solutions has qualified for TL 9000 certification for telecommunications systems and equipment repairs done in its multi-vendor repair and logistics solutison center. The TL 9000 quality management system was developed by the Quality of Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications Forum, a global communications association comprised of the world’s top industry service providers and suppliers dedicated to continually improving standards in the telecommunications industry.

Nexlink, provider of certified pre-owned wireless devices, reported that retailer locations that have implemented the Nexlink program have seen monthly activations rise 10 to 25 percent and device sales increase by an average of two to six units per week.
