FirstNews Briefs: ARRIS, MetroPCS, ZTE, MasterCard, Verizon

ARRIS announced it acquired Mississauga, Ontario-based SeaWell Networks for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition comes one year after ARRIS’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility’s Home division. ARRIS is integrating SeaWell’s adaptive bit rate (ABR) streaming technologies and talent into its Network & Cloud business.

MetroPCS today announced the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S 5 at its retail stores across the nation and on MetroPCS.com. Now customers can have the latest Samsung Galaxy device – available in black at MetroPCS retail stores for $649 plus tax – with MetroPCS’ unlimited, no annual contract rate plans starting at $40.

ZTE Corporation is the exclusive supplier of the ground-air broadband system used by Air China to complete its first in-flight internet service and passenger experience test. ZTE also provided technical and service support.

MasterCard Incorporated announced that its Board of Directors has nominated former FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and Merit Janow for election as independent directors at the company’s June 3, 2014 annual meeting of stockholders. If elected along with each of the company’s existing directors, the Board will increase its size to 13 members.

Verizon Wireless‘ Value Mobile Device Recycling service now makes it more convenient for you to participate in its device recycling program. The program allows you to get a quote on the trade-in value of your smartphone when you’re on the go. The Value service is available on any smartphone from any wireless carrier.
