GetFugu Sues Foreign Nationals for Libel, Extortion

By Andrew Berg | December 4, 2009

GetFugu, the developer of an alternative mobile search tool for Android, BlackBerry and iPhone, says it filed suit against foreign nationals Simon Davies, David Warnock and others for trade libel, defamation and other claims arising out of an alleged smear campaign against GetFugu and its executives.

According to a press release, the lawsuit, which was filed on Sept. 14, alleges a complex scheme by defendants and their cohorts to make false and defamatory accusations through an anonymous smear campaign.

GetFugu claims the misleading tactics employed include anonymous Internet postings styled to look like legitimate press releases and fraudulent message board postings using fake pseudonyms. GetFugu claims the defendants. activities appear to be part of a concerted bad faith effort to artificially deflate the company.s stock price.

In response to the suit, Davies and Warnock filed related claims against the company and more than 30 other entities and individuals, including government representatives. According GetFugu, Warnock and Davies claims are “a host of false, materially misleading and baseless accusations.”

GetFugu’s “See It, Say It, Get It” technology is a carrier and platform-agnostic mobile search platform. It integrates image, voice and location recognition into a single customizable application.
