Linux for mobile phones continues to build steam. One of the groups working on the technology, the LiMo Foundation, is expected to announce next week it has added more prestigious company members.

Among the new members is Purple Labs, which supplies embedded Linux for phones. It says it is the first LiMo member that has a commercial Linux platform for feature phones. Other companies expected to be part of the new membership include Acrodea, ETRI, Huawei and Trolltech.

LiMo was founded in January 2007 by Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone. Its members are working on what the foundation calls an open and globally consistent software platform based on mobile Linux.
