LG today announced it has entered a long-term cross-licensing agreement with Google covering a “broad range of products and technologies.”
The new agreement will cover both companies’ existing patents and any new patents that pop up over the next 10 years.
“LG values its relationship with Google, and this agreement underscores both companies’ commitment to developing new products and technologies that enhance consumers’ lives,” J.H. Lee, executive vice president and head of the LG Electronics Intellectual Property Center, said in a statement.
LG already uses Google’s Android operating system in its mobile devices. The LG G Watch and G Watch R were among the first wearable devices to features Google’s Android Wear OS specifically designed for smaller-screen devices.
In September, LG announced it is working with Nest Labs—acquired by Google earlier this year—on developing connected home devices and services.
