If you were looking to order a Nook, the new Barnes & Noble eReader, for the holidays, you might be out of luck. According to the company’s Web site, all new orders for the Nook will have a ship date of Jan. 4, 2010.
The Nook, which was officially announced on Oct. 20, sells for $259. The Nook gets its connectivity via AT&T and features a full-color LCD touch pad for controls below the main reading panel.
This latest backorder marks the third wave of shipments for the device. Customers who initially pre-ordered the device when it was announced were told that their device would be shipped on Nov. 30, and a second wave of orders will be shipped on Dec. 11.
Barnes & Noble isn’t the only eReader company that’s found it hard to keep up with demand over the holiday season. Last Christmas, the Amazon Kindle was out of stock. Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble report that their eReaders are the top-selling items on their respective Web sites.
