Samsung made good on its word, announcing that it has sold 10 million of its Android-powered Galaxy S smartphones since the line launched in June 2010.
Samsung had its sights on major growth in its smartphone business for some time now. In February, JK Shin, president and head of mobile communications business at Samsung, told Reuters that the company planned to triple its smartphone production by the end of the year. “I will totally commit myself to this goal,” Shin told Reuters.
Since then, variants of the company’s Galaxy S smartphones have made it to every major carrier in the United States.
“The Galaxy S is the result of our 22-year heritage in the mobile industry. It is the realization of our concept of ‘the Smart Life’ – we wanted to makes users’ lives more convenient, more exciting and more integrated. Today’s milestone shows that we have succeeded: 10 million Galaxy S users around the world are living the Smart Life,” Shin said in a press release today.
