Shazam Passes 75M Users

By Staff Author | May 18, 2010

Music identification application maker Shazam says it has added 25 million users in the last six months, bringing its total user base to 75 million. The company expects to hit 100 million users by the end of this year.

The company also said its app has identified more than 1 billion songs. Shazam’s 1 billionth track was Gettin’ Over by David Guetta featuring Chris Willis.

“Shazam has become synonymous with music recognition and discovery on mobile phones,” said CEO Andrew Fisher in a statement. “Shazam is now a brand that consumers know and trust…”

The app is available for phones based on Symbian, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Mobile and the iPhone.

Shazam allows users to identify songs, preview 30-second clips, buy the track, find local and international tour dates for the tagged artist and purchase tickets to the gigs. Users also can find out what’s popular through Shazam’s proprietary Tag Charts, which is integrated with Facebook and Twitter.
