T-Mobile announced Wednesday the addition of the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 to its JUMP! On Demand upgrade program.
The Un-carrier said it will offer the 16 GB devices for $0 upfront and 18 monthly payments of $26 for the iPad Air 2 or $22 for the iPad mini 4. Customers on a Simple Choice voice plan can add the tablet to their plan with matching data up to 5 GB for just $10 per month, T-Mobile said.
Higher memory versions of the devices will also be available, but will include a moderate upfront payment.
The additions, along with a recent weekend deal that offered subscribers a free Samsung tablet with the purchase of the Galaxy S6, appear to point to a shift in T-Mobile’s tablet focus.
Though the Un-carrier touts its tablet plan as “the best in wireless,” T-Mobile has heretofore lagged behind other carriers in capitalizing on tablets for growth. At the end of last year, T-Mobile only achieved a third of the number of tablet adds as Sprint despite having roughly the same subscriber figures at the time.
