AT&T customers can now leave the house without their smartphone, provided they have a Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.
Customers who own a Gear S2 will be the first to be able to take advantage of AT&T’s previously announced NumberSync feature.
According to a press release, existing customers can get NumberSync on Gear S2 through a software update. NumberSync allows the user to send and receive texts, as well as make and receive calls from their smartwatch using their usual mobile number.
NumberSync operates on the AT&T wireless network and is not dependent on being connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth. AT&T says the function can even be used when the customer’s smartphone is off or disconnected from the network.
AT&T currently offers the Samsung Gear S2 for $99.99 with a two-year agreement.
