Tomorrow night, Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) audition in their first vice-presidential debate at Washington University to become the nation’s next second fiddle.

Accompanying the vide-presidential candidates on site in St. Louis will be thousands of media, political strategists, event organizers, students and spectators.

To prepare for what will undoubtedly be an intense spike in voice, SMS, e-mail and other data traffic, Verizon Wireless has deployed a Cell On Light Truck (COLT) to boost network capacity for those transmissions.

The COLT is capable of processing thousands of calls and data transmissions each hour and is designed for use at special events that demand additional network capacity.

Verizon Wireless plans to activate a second permanent cell site on the campus of Washington University by the end of this year.
