Sprint has confirmed that it will pass on the upcoming AWS auctions.
In an emailed statement, the carrier wrote: “Sprint has decided not to participate in the FCC’s AWS-3 auction but will continue to evaluate the opportunities presented by the upcoming 600 MHz incentive auction.”
Originally reported by Bloomberg, Sprint said that it’s more interested in the 600 MHz incentive auction, which is slated for 2015.
The AWS-3 spectrum is probably less suited to pair with Sprint’s existing portfolio, which includes airwaves in the 800 MHz, 1.9 GHz and 2.5 GHz bands.
The FCC has said it expects the AWS-3 auction, which will take place in November, to raise about $10 billion.
AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have all expressed interest in participating in the auction.
