LAS VEGAS—In the super-charged space known as mobile e-mail and messaging, Seven unveiled an enhancement to its integrated messaging platform, extending mobile calendar support to Web mail services, including Google calendar.
The company says the addition of mobile calendar to Web mail services gives operators a wider market segment to target and a new value proposition to win and keep customers. Interestingly, beta users in Seven’s user community access calendar even more than contacts.
Seven says unlike some other messaging solutions, namely those recently announced by the likes of Nokia and Microsoft, its solution doesn’t try to tie a consumer into any one system. A lot of users already have selected the services they want to use, whether that be a Google account, corporate account, Yahoo! or a combination, says Isabelle Dumont, senior director of marketing at Seven.
Dumont says with some other e-mail services, the user’s personal and corporate identities get merged together. Seven lets the consumer access various types of accounts but doesn’t try to mix up a person’s work and personal identities, she says. “We let you decide. We put the choice back in your hand.”
Among its activities at CTIA Wireless 2009, Seven will be showing a demo in Qualcomm’s booth. Last year, Seven announced it would provide integrated messaging components for Qualcomm’s BREW platform.
Seven’s technology is also compatible with other major device platforms, including Symbian, Microsoft, Java and Android.
The Google Calendar is immediately accessible on the Seven community Web site to mobile users who are part of the Seven beta program. The new service will be rolled out in production at various carriers worldwide during the second quarter.
