Qualcomm subsidiary Firethorn Holdings today announced an upgrade for its mobile banking software, focused on wider mobile commerce trends.
The new version lets financial institutions offer customers special promotions and develop custom account interfaces. It also lets customers check loyalty points; that feature works now for financial institutions and is planned in the future for merchants, the company said.
Also, the software is backward-compatible, so banks do not need any upgrades to use it.
The upgrade is available now. It is “one of many advances Firethorn plans to make as we anticipate the maturing market’s needs for more advanced payment capabilities,” officials said, although no indications were given about what the advanced capabilities might be.
Qualcomm acquired the banking specialist for $210 million last year.
