• More than 1,600 WiMAX professionals from 66 countries converged on the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre for the 2nd Annual WiMAX Forum Congress Asia. The WiMAX Forum says the growing momentum of Congress Asia is a reflection of the region’s increased WiMAX activity, both in developed and developing markets.
• WiMAX service provider Towerstream has extended the coverage area of its Chicago wireless broadband network to include Evanston, Ill.
• Yap, developer of an automated speech-to-text hosted platform for communications service providers, announced the availability of its Software Development Kit (SDK) for the speech-enablement of BlackBerry applications.
• Glu Mobile announced the launch of the game Cops & Robbers on the Apple App Store. The app is an original Glu title for iPhone and iPod touch.
• Intuit says its Quicken Online Mobile personal finance application is now available for free on the Apple App Store.
• With China investing billions of dollars in 3G networks, Andrew Solutions, a division of CommScope, is completing expansion of its Suzhou, China, manufacturing and distribution center to better support its local customers. Andrew’s Suzhou factory currently has more than 2,000 employees and a production area of more than 20,000 square meters. The expansion will increase the workforce by about 400 people and the production space for base station antenna manufacturing by 50 percent.
• Comverse announced the launch of its Mobile Centrex solution, which will allow mobile operators to move into the enterprise market by offering advanced telephony services for “on-the-go” employees.
